The Monday/Wednesday/Friday Jr. Kindergarten PLUS class is 3 hours and 45 minutes in length and is offered at:
Tuition: $400 per month (September to June)
Jr. Kindergarten PLUS is a HALF DAY, Kindergarten readiness program for children who are 4 years old by December 31, 2021.
For children 4 yrs and older the ratio is 1:12 as set out by the provincial government. At Kaleidoscope Kids Preschool we maintain a 1:11 teacher/student ratio in our Jr. Kindergarten PLUS class.
The Jr. Kindergarten PLUS children will embark on a learning adventure that will progressively challenge language and math experiences. The classes are designed to enrich both the mind and character of every child within an environment rich in fun, phonics, art, science, math, language instruction and self esteem building activities.
All Jr. Kindergarten PLUS programs include:
The following is a general outline of our Jr. Kindergarten PLUS classroom routine:
Greetings – Every day children will be greeted by their teachers and join in for a short free play time in the classroom.
Circle Time – Children sing hello, talk about the theme, have a story based on the theme and discuss the craft that day. Games, songs and discussions promote development in language, number skills and social interactions.
Gym or Musical Time - Physical education is a fun and busy time! There will be a combination of teacher directed and free play with the equipment and instruments provided allowing for gross motor development and creative movement.
Snack – Children as a group wash their hands to sit down for snack provided from home. Having the children get into the practice of washing hands first promotes healthy eating habits. Once snack time is over, the children throw away their own trash. Snack is an important time for children to learn and practice socialization skills.
Centres - Art is an integral part of an early childhood program and a themed craft will be offered each day or a theme long project. Children are free to circulate among the choice of centres and activities set out for them. They are encouraged and guided in cooperative play throughout this time. Rotating centers such as the sand/water table, dramatic play areas, science and discovery, building, puzzles and games, listening centre and the reading centre will provide rich opportunities for global development.
Show & Share Circle Time – A second story based on the ‘Letter of the Week’ on Mondays. Wednesday and Friday children are encouraged to bring in photos of the letter we are discussing and show them to their class. It’s then time for Show & share and Calendar activities by the special helper.
PLUS!
We are excited to be offering Spanish as part of our extended program!
Our wacky science experiments will be about exploration and imagination. We have a whole 'whack' of wonderful activities planned. We plan to conduct some great science experiments and see how things move and change. We are going to use our imaginations to construct and build and are excited to offer Lego Education as part of our curriculum! We promise to keep it 'whacky'!
We will be moving and grooving! We will be exploring all sorts of activities to keep us active while promoting balance, hand/eye coordination and fitness! We will be incorporating the SPARK Early Childhood curriculum. SPARK is an effective preschool physical education program, designed to provide children ages 3-5 with high activity, academically integrated, enjoyable movement opportunities that foster social and motor development and enhance school readiness skills. We will also be adding other activities such as Zumba and My Gym to the mix! My Gym has developed an extraordinary program helping children develop physically, cognitively and emotionally. Children have loads of fun as they gain strength, balance, coordination, agility and flexibility while developing social skills, confidence and self-esteem.
Closing Circle Time - Each class will wind down with songs, finger plays and a short discussion of the day's events and discuss what is coming up for our next class. Everyone sings good-bye!
